Not supported for Resilio Sync Business
Please be aware that Resilio Sync Business cannot be updated to Sync v3. This restriction also applies to Resilio Sync Business installations on Windows Servers used for personal purposes.The guide below covers only Resilio Sync Free, Resilio Sync Home Pro and Resilio Sync Home Pro for Family installations.
Before proceeding with update, please familiarize yourself with these important changes in the product and change log that might affect your existing Sync usage and shares configuration.
Follow the steps below to update your setup to Resilio Sync v3.
1. Check if you have a valid Resilio Sync license. This might be:
- a previously purchased Resilio Sync Home Pro license.
- a previously purchased Resilio Sync Home Pro for Family license.
- for new users or Resilio Sync Free users, the license obtained from our site.
2. Install the new version
Update process depends on the current installation of Resilio Sync app.
Default Resilio Sync installation with the default storage location.
Regardless of whether it's installed as app or a service.
- Stop Resilio Sync app or service.
- Download Resilio Sync.exe from the site and start it.
Non-installed Resilio Sync launched from a CLI with the non-default storage location.
If you launched the Resilio Sync.exe file from a CLI with
/config or /storage parameter.- Stop Resilio Sync process.
- Download the Resilio Sync.exe file from the site and put it inplace.
- Start Resilio Sync using the same command with the same parameter.
Resilio Sync installation with a sync.conf file beside the Resilio Sync.exe.
- Stop Resilio Sync process.
- Download Resilio Sync.exe file from the site and launch it. Check that configuration is preserved and the folders are kept in Sync app. Stop Sync
- Put the downloaded Resilio Sync.exe into the Appdata folder and replace the exiting Resilio Sync.exe file there. If you have Sync installed as a service, skip this step.
- Start Sync.
Please ensure that you run Resilio Sync Home, free or Pro. Check it in UI header or in Sync settings -> License menu. Resilio Sync Business cannot be updated and may lead to lost shares configuration (keeping the files on the device intact).
- Stop Resilio Sync.
- Download Resilio Sync.dmg from the site and launch it. Proceed with the installation.
- Start Resilio Sync
Depending on how Resilio Sync is installed.
Installed and launched via a binary file.
Stop rslsync process.
Download the resilio sync archive and unpack it. Put the unpacked rslsync binary in place of the current one.
Launch the new binary file using the same command line parameters and as the same user as before to ensure that Sync is pointed to the same storage folder and al configuration is preserved.
Installed from the package repository
Follow this guide to install the package.
3. Ensure access to the product.
If you have updated from a licensed Sync version (Home Pro or Home Pro for Family), your Resilio Sync is activated automatically. To confirm this, navigate to the Sync menu - License and check the status.
For updated Resilio Sync Free, a trial period for 7 days is enabled. Register on Resilio Sync site and get the license for activation. Please refer to this guide for more details about licensing.
