How to apply license key and share license seats

This article describes how to activate a license/shared seat on different desktop platforms.

Once the billing information is entered and payment is processed, you'll get an e-mail confirming the purchase. Download the btskey file attached to the e-mail:

Apply Sync Home, Sync Family or Sync Business license

Sync Home Pro license can be applied to several Sync devices using the license file. Sync Business license can be applied to only one Sync identity. This identity becomes License Owner. Other devices that are linked to this identity get updated to Pro automatically. Other devices not linked to this identity are to be updated to Pro via shared seat (see below). Do not apply the business license key to several Sync identities directly - it will 'steal' license ownership and become new license owner!

Windows, mac OS, WebUI

Open Sync UI or WebUI, go to Menu -> Licenses -> Apply new key, select the downloaded license key.

Headless computers
If this is a clean installation of Sync and you haven't yet created identity, you need to first create it and give it some name
Linux: ./rslsync --identity Name
Windows: "Resilio Sync.exe" /identity Name

Once the identity is created, apply the license file

Linux: ./rslsync --license /path/to/Sync_Home.btskey
Windows: "Resilio Sync.exe" /license C:\path\to\Sync.btskey

 

Resilio Sync Home for Family license that be applied on devices of 5 family members.  No need to share any seats, simply use the same key for every family member. 
Sync Business license key can be applied only to one Sync identity which will become license Owner using the guidelines above. Only one identity can be license Owner. It means that if license key is applied to another identity afterwards, the new identity will become new license Owner, and previous identity will lose its ownership. Share a License Seat

This guide applies only to Resilio Sync v2. In Resilio Sync v3 licensing schema was changed, please refer here for details.

Once you've applied the multi-seat Business license key to an identity, share the remaining seats with others.  On license Owner go to License menu and click to e-mail or copy the link and send it to other device.

- 'E-mail' - this will open your default mail client and paste the license sharing link into the e-mail.
- 'Copy' - this will copy license sharing link to clipboard. You can then manually paste the link into an e-mail, text file, message etc which will be sent to another person.

When a person receives the link, they need to paste it to "Manual Connection" field in Sync. License Owner will get request for accessing the seat:

By confirming approval, you will grant one of your seats to that person.
 

Reclaim a Seat

To reclaim a license seat from a user go to License menu, hover mouse over the user and click appearing "Reclaim" button. As with the license - removing a shared seat will not affect other License Users and the License Owner.

Remove a License

To remove a license go to Licenses menu and click "Remove license" button. Note, removing Business license from License Owner does not remove it from License Users.
